Units

The Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Teaching consists of twelve units of competence. At its heart are five yoga units, unique to this qualification, which provide a thorough grounding in yoga theory, practice and teaching methods.

These are:

SYA101:

Work effectively in the Satyananda Yoga framework

SYA201:

Assess Satyananda Yoga learning needs

SYA301:

Plan Satyananda Yoga instruction

SYA401:

Provide Satyananda Yoga instruction

SYA501:

Operate in accordance with accepted Satyananda practices and ethics

In addition, there are six units from the Health Training Package and one from the Business Training package to provide the expertise you need to operate as a professional yoga teacher.

These are:

Develop professional expertise

HLTCOM3A:

Manage a practice

HLTCOM4A:

Communicate effectively with clients

HLTCOM6A:

Make referrals to other health professionals

HLTHSE1A:

Follow the organisation’s Health and Safety Policies

HLTFA1A:

Apply basic first aid (to be completed separately)

BSBCMN204A:

Work effectively with others

For the award of the Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Teaching, all twelve units must be completed. This qualification will list all of the nationally recognized units completed.

To have completed the First Aid unit (HLTFA1A), you will need to hold a current First Aid Certificate, which can be obtained separately. For your convenience, Satyananda Yoga Academy offers a First Aid course twice each year. The cost for this course is not included in the Diploma course module fees.

Subjects

The units of competence are delivered and assessed through subjects, which are grouped into six modules. Yogic Studies consists of four modules, delivered over four semesters. The two Teacher Training modules make up the final two semesters. The units of competence are delivered as follows:

  • The units “Work Effectively in the Satyananda Yoga Framework”, “Work Effectively with Others” and “Follow the Organisation’s Health and Safety Policies” are completed during Yogic Studies modules 1a, 1b, 2a, 2b.
  • The unit “Develop Professional Expertise” is commenced in Yogic Studies 2b and completed in Teacher Training 2.
  • The remaining units are delivered in Teacher Training modules 1 and 2.
