Swami Satyasangananda Saraswati was born in 1953, in Chandornagore (West Bengal, India). Highly educated, she was a scholar of English literature and also travelled widely within India and abroad. As a young woman of twenty-two, she began to experience profound inner awakenings, which led her to meet Swami Satyananda. In 1982, she was initiated into the Dashnami sannyasa tradition and began a life of dedication and service to her guru and his work.
Accompanying Swami Satyananda on several world tours, Swami Satsangi gained a deep insight into his teachings. She furthered her understanding by extensive research into the yogic and tantric traditions, as well as modern sciences and philosophies. An inspired teacher, speaker and gifted writer, she is the author of several major texts on yoga and tantra.
Since 1989, Swami Satsangi has resided at Rikhiapeeth (the sadhana place of Swami Satyananda) working tirelessly to fulfill her guru’s vision of uplifting the neglected and impoverished villagers in the surrounding rural areas. Through the expansion of Sivananda Math (a charitable institution) she has succeeded in transforming the lives of the people in this region, and has also created a vibrant, dynamic centre of spirituality and education within the gates of Rikhiapeeth (Sivananda Ashram).
We want to awaken everything yet remain the same outside, without any change. If you want to take a bath or jump in the river but do not want to get wet, it is not going to be possible.
