The Yogic Studies programs are not just for those wanting to become a yoga teacher. They are a vehicle to navigate the vastness of yoga in a way that enables each individual to develop a personal relationship with this ancient system of practice. Developed under the guidance of Swami Niranjanananda and based on the teachings of Paramahamsa Satyananda, the 3 Yogic Studies modules draw great strength from a living tradition of yogic masters.
The essence of the program is to develop a strong foundation of personal practice that teaches students to follow their own inner wisdom. This foundation allows students to relate to the theoretical components of Yogic Studies from their own experiences in, and outside of the classroom.
With the firm base of yogic understanding developed through Yogic Studies, you are then in the position to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to become a Satyananda Yoga Teacher.
The completion of the three Yogic Studies modules followed by the Teacher Training module, leads to the Diploma in Satyananda Yoga Training which is a nationally recognized training course. You do not need to commit to the whole Diploma at the onset; you can simply derive the benefits that are to be obtained from one or several Yogic Studies modules. The consideration to enroll in the whole Diploma will be for those that have a deep desire to share the benefits of Yoga with others and want to gain the richest understanding of Yoga along with the skills to bring this to others. The Yogic Studies modules and the Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Training are open to both experienced practitioners and those new to yoga; all are welcome to apply.
Amongst its many benefits, yoga provides you with a technology that allows you to develop your self-reflective awareness to a point where you can see yourself objectively: to see your mental and emotional patterns, your strengths and your limitations, and how these traits limit or elevate your life. Appraisal is not limited to head and heart only, Exercise Science provides the skills to objectively appraise the physical nature also: posture, strength, flexibility, endurance, body composition and diet. From a teacher’s perspective, it also ultimately provides you with the capacity to objectively appraise these qualities in others.
There has to be balance in life. You have to have as much devotion to God as you have cravings for enjoyment. Enjoy this world as much as you can, but side by side give as much devotion to God as possible.
