The course is broken into four half-year modules. Each module starts with a residential period, for the first three modules it is two weeks and in the final module, three weeks. During the residential period you have very full days starting with early morning classes, then lectures and practicals going through until early evening. After the residential upon return home a minimum of 20 hours per week needs to be put aside for a program of defined yogic practice and study. Each of the four semesters is around 18 weeks in length.
The Diploma of Satyananda Yoga Training at two years in length and containing nominally 1440 hours of study and practice, is significantly longer than the majority of yoga teacher training courses available in Australia. If you want to become a yoga teacher quickly then this is probably not your best choice. If however, you are looking to systematically consolidate, build and integrate your understanding of the width, depth, and many applications of yoga beyond the asana mat, then indeed this is a course well worth considering.
Aside from the residential, you will need to be able to allocate around about 20 hours per week. This time is required to fulfill the course requirements for study and yogic practice. The practices of asana, pranayama, meditation, yoga nidra and shatkarmas previously introduced during the residential are systematically revisited and form the foundation of your daily practice. The minimum requirement is that this aspect of the course is undertaken on four days out of seven , and that a diary of practice is maintained and routinely submitted.
The concepts introduced during the residential are likewise revisited and between reading, reflecting, completing online quizzes, submitting assignments and contributing to online forums most people find they need to allocate around about 10 hours per week for this aspect of the course.
Do not brood over your past mistakes and failures as this will only fill your mind with grief, regret and depression. Do not repeat them in the future.
